Protect Our OCP - Reject Kingsview Expansion

Petition to North Cowichan Mayor and Council

To: The Mayor and Council of the District of North Cowichan

We, the undersigned, are residents of North Cowichan and we supported the adoption of a fair, thoughtful and far-sighted Official Community Plan (OCP) in 2022. We care deeply about protecting our rural character, productive farms, rivers, lakes and shorelines, beautiful natural scenery, freedom from traffic congestion, along with healthy watersheds and wildlife habitat. The policies in the OCP do this while balancing the economic and growth needs of the community.

The dismantling of our Official Community Plan through amendments, including those which expand the Urban Containment Boundary, weaken and undermine the plan’s critical protections of our neighbourhoods and environment, and degrade our rural landscape into urbanized sprawl. They allow a small number of developers to profit at the public’s expense. We urge the Council to stop approving these destructive plan amendments.
